My Pet Giant African Land Snails

My name is Kerri and I am 11 years old.  My family have always been interested in animals.  We have had dogs, rats, russian and syrian hamsters, goldfish, tropical fish, gerbils, guinea pigs, lizards, geckos and snakes (57 snakes in our house once!) so I have always liked seeing unusual animals.  I did some research and reading and got interested in Giant African Land Snails and after asking my parents permission I bought my first pair of Giant African Snails as pets and they are called Brian and Tim. I thought they sounded very interesting, quite cool and something a bit different.  My mum and dad helped me sort out everything I needed to prepare a good home for them so I could house them in my room.

I started off with two snails in a glass 'Exo-Terra' tank, kept on a moist material with a heat mat to provide good temperature - for more detail go to my 'Housing' page.  Very soon though my two snails laid eggs and I now have 3 smaller snails.  This gives me a total of 5 snails at different ages.  You already know Brian and Tim, but my others are Legs who was hatched 12 May 2009, Arms hatched June 2009 and Toes who was hatched in July 2009.
